This Championship was the largest world class sports event in the history of Hong Kong and the first International Game after Hong Kong returned to China.

This event was held at the Hong Kong Coliseum November 19th through 23rd, 1997. There were over 1000 participants from over 90 countries, which took part in this event. Taekwondo was a demonstration sport in the 1988 Seoul Olympic and 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. Taekwondo will appear for the first time as a regular Olympic event at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Taekwondo is a modern, international Oriental Martial Art and Sport spanning over thousands of years, developed as a self-defense, physical fitness from Korea. Now over 160 countries are training the Taekwondo to improve physically and mentally their bodies and minds.

The Korean team dominated most of the divisions. Recently the United States team became one of the strongest teams in the world as well as the Europeans, Russian and Cuban teams.

Master Park worked the Opening and Closing Ceremony Demonstrations. Last August, Master Park brought 50 members of the Korean children's Demonstration team too the Youngstown area. They are considered to be the best in the world and performed demonstrations at YSU, New Castle, and other Master Park's Martial Arts Schools.

This team performed demonstrations at the main Ceremonies in front of a sold out crowd in the Coliseum. During the event, they received applause, which made the headlines. Movie Star Jackie Chan was invited as a special guest.
